Concord

With a population slightly greater than 120,000 Concord is the largest city in Contra Costa County. In 2006 Concord was voted as the top 100 places to live in America by Money Magazine. Thanks to the BART Station, commuting into the city is a simple 40-minute trip. Shopping is plentiful here, with three major shopping districts, including Sunvalley Shopping Center, and The Willows featuring national retailers such as Macy's, Sears, REI, Old Navy, and OfficeMax. Downtown Concord, near Todos Santos Plaza, offers a vibrant mix of dining and retail in the historic downtown.

There no better place on a summer evening to catch a headline act than the Concord Pavilion and its open grassy amphitheater. Bring a picnic dinner, a locally produced wine, and enjoy the good life. A summer series of music events, now in its second decade at Todos Santos Plaza, brings local musicians to the Farmers Market downtown on the square on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Concord places a big emphasis on families, and offers excellent schools, plenty of parks and open space, as well as popular kid-friendly events including KidFest, Fall Fest, Halloween contests and parades, and the 4th of July Parade.

Concord is close to Mt Diablo and its extensive network of hiking, biking, and equestrian trails. The popular Iron Horse Trail connects Concord and Dublin along the former right of way of the Southern Pacific Railroad. Broad, level, and paved, the Iron Horse Trail is a great place to ride with the entire family.
